The Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta is an annual event organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda and Boat International Media. It opens the Mediterranean Superyacht calendar in early June and attracts some of the world's most magnificent sailing yachts. It is hosted by the exclusive Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, located in the enchanting village of Porto Cervo, the jewel of the northern coast of Sardinia. The race programme includes four days of competitive racing and a vibrant social programme.

After yesterday's racing at the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta was lost, with Porto Cervo being battered by 30 knots winds, so today there was a flat calm on the waters off northwest Sardinia. After a wait out on the water for the sea breeze to fill in, a race was started only for it to be canned as the wind fizzled away to nothing.

After a breezy opening day that saw several boats returning to the marina off the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda with breakage, so strong winds continued to blow overnight and through into this morning when, after a 90 minute delay, Principle Race Office Peter Craig cancelled day two of racing at the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta.

There is now less than one week to go before the Mediterranean superyacht racing calendar opens with four days of exhilarating racing on the emerald waters of the Costa Smeralda at the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta. The regatta is organised by the Yacht Club Costa Smeralda (YCCS) in collaboration with Boat International Media. Following consultation with the participating owners, Edoardo Recchi, Sports Director at YCCS, has preliminarily split the diverse fleet of 28 yachts into two divisions with the aim of making the competition as exciting and challenging as possible for all involved without compromising the safety of the vessels or crew.
